Polaris is a chorus/vibrato inspired by the original EHX Small Clone. One has resided in the shoppe since it’s inception. With it’s smooth modulation and simple controls, it was a great starting point. At the heart of Polaris resides an MN3007 BBD chip. The same chip found in the original NYC box. After recreating the circuit in a breadboard, we moved forward from there. We started by replacing the depth switch in favor of a knob. This allows for better control of the modulation depth. Following in the steps of Daedalus, we incorporated a second depth knob that is selectable via the secondary footswitch. The original circuit did not have any tone control options. We decided to implement a Tone knob on Polaris. This knob allows the user to add or cut lower bass presence to the signal. Once we had a tone section sculpted to our liking, we placed a master Volume knob at the end of the circuit. The Volume knob goes from full cut to slightly boosted above unity volume. These two knobs work in conjunction with each other. Lastly, we added a Mode toggle switch to seamlessly alter between chorus and vibrato modes.
VOLUME – Controls overall output volume. Ranges from full cut to a strong boost.
TONE – Fine tunes the low end response.Interactive with the Volume knob.
RATE – Controls the modulation speed.
FOCUS – Controls the overall modulation depth.
FOCUS II – Controls the overall modulation depth when the right footswitch is engaged.
MODE SWITCH – Toggle between Vibrato (pitch modulation: left) and Chorus (pitch duplication: right). in a sense, your natural – albeit modulated tone to the left, and a lush full sound to the right, much like our lunar graphic.
9V – Standard 5.5mm x 2.1mm center negative power supply. Polaris has internal polarity protection.
Pre-owned Guild D-25M (1976). In very good condition ,especially for the age. Has all the normal wear and tear, The top has some light bumps and bruises, light checking and minor chips. The back has a few spots with buckle rash, checking and small indentations. Structurally sound and sounds like a grand piano! Huge range and beautiful tone. The action is around 5/64th's on the high e string side and 6 6/64th's on the low E side. The saddle is a little low, and the frets are worn a bit flat but are divot free. The nut has been replaced at some point as well. The endpin/strap button has been removed and modified to fit a pickup endpin which since has been removed. A replacement endpin will be included and can be lightly glued in on request.
A great player guitar that has all the vintage vibe and character!
